Organic Church Today

I was following an interesting post here by Dan - related to his being a Pastor in a church trying to understand the concept of organic church. It was interesting - yet it also brought back the discussions I had with the Lord when I was called out to go to.

Firstly I had the title of Pastor giving by men - having been schooled and earning my Masters in pastoral ministries - yet it counts as dung compared to the teaching I have received in the school of Knee-ology. It was in this time that the Father revealed His calling on my life which is equal to all other believers in the body - not above and not below others - merely a gifting and calling of the Lord.

I could see the pain staking chains of religion that bind many in our programed spirits in relation to the common view of how church works. The common statements of "You don't have any ordained leaders" is one that I will mainly discuss here.

First off I would say that I know many good men speaking from the pulpit - with a heart for Christ and a heart for people. As well, I know many that are merely filling the position as a chosen career. Yet in each case the full knowledge and understanding of the office of pastor in misconstrued.

The Bible is clear that it is God who ordains not men. It is not a matter of how much book or Bible knowledge one has - it is scriptural y correct in saying that it is a calling that the Father spoke before we were even born. Yet it is as well common for men and women to be ordained of God - yet not commissioned by Him till the right time. This as we read in the New Testament is when Holy Spirit brings witness to the elders that God now commissions the ordination that the person may walk in order that calling publicly. Yet at no time in the New Testament do we see it called a job title, rather it is a way of life as a servant of the body and Christ Jesus.

There is much misunderstanding of the role of the pastor/teacher today. From the groups that do not believe in the office to those who place far to much emphasis on the office. I believe that were we to read the New Testament with spiritual eyes we would see that the offices of apostles, evangelist, prophets and pastor/teachers is a must for the body to operate accordingly. Each one of these offices if a gift from the Father to the body. The problem is that these positions have been wrongly administered and used to lord themselves over the body.

The position of elder is also one that is mistaking and misunderstood- many today are called Deacon - who in some cases rule the pastor - yet the elder-ship of the new testament plays a vital role again as a servant to the body and is based on spiritual maturity not necessarily age.

This discussion and role of the pastor is hard to understand for those who have gone through a cemetery- oh I am sorry I meant seminary. For the seminary if you will is likened to a cemetery - as they often drain the life of Christ out of their students and replace Him with stale dead religion indoctrinated toward a certain denominational belief - trust me - Holy Spirit had to leave me on a heavenly intravenous for some time to get religion out of my blood stream.

This one of the reasons why they can't begin to understand that a pastor is not the ruler or leader of a local fellowship of believers. They have been taught that they must herd the sheep in such a manner as to maintain control - from emotionally tied tithe messages to down right guilt riddled messages to ensure the business of the institution continues.

They can not grasp the idea of a truly Holy Spirit lead group of believers, dependent upon His leading and the operation of the offices acting in their true role as servants ( true gifts) to the body. They con not grasp to understanding that these offices raise up, train and set in place elders to see that the Kingdom principles are functioning in the body to ensure against herisey and false teaching - yet in a biblical manner of love and intervention. They are to counsel - discipline in a brotherly or sisterly manner as true servants to the body.

In the body we need each office in full operation. Not disposed of because of those who abuse the office and certainly not held is a controlling manner. We have for to long thought of these offices as a select few - yet in a true body of believers operating in the kingdom manner we will see these gifts spread out among all the believers in one form or another - to the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ. Their are those who are babes who must be discipled as are those who are mature who must be released to their calling - commissioned and set in place that the whole body may benefit.

It is not the New Testament order of the church that is broken - it is the misunderstanding of the truth that must be reformed.

In the true sense of biblical understanding of these roles functioning according to the Spirits leading and revelation - a pastor would not be the center stage of the meeting - rather the one who steps in under the body of believers and lifts them up to the true revelation of Jesus Christ.

The preachers are all of us proclaiming (preaching) the truth to the lost - the evangelist would be operation in the calling of the lost as well and the motivation. The prophet would be operating as one who encourages, brings forth not only the correction of the Father but the messages of excitement and motivation. The apostles operating as those who go out, scope the land (communities) and by their teaching, calling the body together, establish and plant new group of believers and tend to the training and releasing those who are to fill the offices of the local branch of the body. As well they are those who carry forth the testimonies of what is happening through out the body from region to region.

This is what Holy Spirit has been showing me over the past year - with an in-depth studying of the book of acts and a re learning of what Jesus taught us about the Kingdom of God here on earth - that it would be a true reflection of what the Father has spoken in Heaven. Which is why I am fully engaged to and with a open heart believing that the "Simple-church" - "House Church" "Organic Church" operating in a kingdom minded manner will bring a much needed reformation to the body.

It may not put an end to people meeting in large building - I just believe however that the true church is heading toward the day when large buildings will only be needed on occasion when the body - located throughout neighborhoods in each city, state and nation comes together to rejoice in all that the Lord is doing through them. Which is what we read in the New Testament Acts of the first disciples of Jesus Christ - and they transformed the world.

I would like to know what others thoughts are on this subject.

Offices mentioned here are not in the religious sense - it is not a hold over from any denominational understanding ,rather from the perspective of the Kingdom - not in the office of authority of dictatorship- but in the office of the gifting. I do not believe one is greater than the other. Each is an important member of the body and of equal value to the whole. I do believe that if we study the gifts - they are to be functioning in each group of believers - each one of us has a gift for a specific function - none of us are called to be mere sheep.

One of the problems I find today is that some presume by erasing every aspect of the institutional church including words and terms they can distant themselves and call them selves the One. There is a lot that has gone astray in the main stream church - but there is as well foundational truths that we can not escape and in doing so we are not functioning as true members of the Bride of Christ.

Read 1 Cor 12: here Paul speaks of the different aspects of the body drawing that picture that each is a needed member of the Bride.

We read in verse 4-6; Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.

Then in verses 11-12; But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.

We can go onto to read verses 25-31; That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

Paul is pointing out here that each one is in a position to release their gifts - yet he as well points out that each is as important as the other.

In Acts 13 we see prophet, evangelist and teacher separately mentioned - and edifying the church functioning in unity. Why would they bother to point out each ones position in the body? Acts 13:1-2 Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers; as Barnabas, and Simeon that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen, which had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

Paul as well uses the word office several times:

Rom 11:13 For I speak to you Gentiles, inasmuch as I am the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnify mine office:

Rom 12:4 For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:

1Tim 3:1, 3:10, 3:13
1.This is a true saying, if a man desire the office of a bishop, he desireth a good work.
10.And let these also first be proved; then let them use the office of a deacon, being found blameless.
13.For they that have used the office of a deacon well purchase to themselves a good degree, and great boldness in the faith which is in Christ Jesus.

My point of stating office - as was Paul's - is the position from which they operate in the gift or gifts that Holy Spirit has giving them by the declaration of the Father. Not claiming one over the other or one greater than the others.

(The rest is in no way an assumption that your standing in this position Jim - I wish to merely state it for the record)

I would hope that by the grace of God being matured in the faith we are not overcome by mere words - for this cause was the church divided into the sects in the first place, when in reality we should all be reaching out with the love of Christ. We are not at odds with the institutional church - my prayer is that we have seemed followed the Masters call on our lives - we must at all time be a people who shine forth the love of Christ - and we can point out error in love - not condemnation.

I have gotten up and walked out on several House churches (quietly excused myself) that were teaching that there is no longer any leadership in the church - they are in error in regard to leadership in the body - there is a God designed leadership in the Kingdom and the body - it is totally opposite of what man has made it - in that it is leadership via servant hood - yet the truth of the scriptures remain. We can not slice and dice it to fit our understanding - we need rise up in the wisdom of Christ. Either the whole Bible is correct or none of it is.
Blessing to you as well Jim - thank you for the feed back.

Don't Limit Opportunities

I want to start out by saying how thankful I am for OCT and the people who support and encourage so consistently. I am still learning my way around the site. I check the site every day for new stuff. I am surprised when I see that a lot of times I am the only one online.Wasn't really sure what to title this because I have a couple of things on my mind. Been really praying about what God wants me to do. Sometimes can get frustrated wanting to do something so big for God. But I have realized as I…See More

Leaving it behind

Hello Brothers and Sisters,This week I come to you from the top of the Arbel mountain where Jesus prayed after feeding the 5000. On my way down I stumbled with the view of a small town which is the place someone well known came from. Someone whom discovered in her journey something many of us know in our minds but not necessarily in our hearts.I hope it adds to your ammunition pack for the journey ahead of you!Travel WellPablo…See More
