A New Study on People Who Leave Church
Just wanted to pass on this dissertation that was shown to me by the researcher. Her name is Barb Orlowski and she completed her D.Min. in British Columbia at ACTS Seminary. Her focus is on people who left the church because of spiritual abuse. You can see the entire dissertation here www.churchexiters.com
I found chapter 3 to be great because she focussed on the hierarchical authority structure in churches and how that in itself encourages spiritual abuse. Go check it out and find her email link. Mark and Sam, it is interesting to read your comments. Barb's book is now being published so you can't read it online anymore. I wish she had a bigger sample ( I think only around 100 were surveyed ) It's interesting, Sam, that you were one of them. Anyway, looking forward to more dialogue with you guys here.

In case you are interested I did post some excerpts from her dissertation on a blog post. (She wanted me to help her promote her work.)
Also, I think Ron mentioned something to me about the different stages (-2,-1,0,+1,+2) that people go through as they transition to new church paradigms. Wolfgang Simson commented on a different posthereabout this migration pattern.
And, you all may know about this one already but I recently found Lk10.com to be helpful for house church planters. -
