Chapter 6
Sunday Morning Costumes
I don't have a problem with dressing up to go to church. Yet I remember ministering to a guy years ago that I let stay at my house when I was single. He was homeless and I suggested that he go to a church down the block. He went, but they would not let him in. I think churches today are more tolerant.
I never went to a formal church where the ministers had some sort of get up. I always thought that was weird. Now I ignore it when I visit. There is a street preacher in downtown Kansas City that puts on some sort of get up to preach. Even though he has that on I have a lot of respect for him because it take guts to do what he is doing.

There are, apparently, people who do feel it necessary to dress up to go to church, and I was once asked by one of the ladies at a church I was attending to please wear a dress if I wanted to be accepted. She was trying to be very nice about it but, you see, I never went back. Which I'm sure was fine with them. I was obviously not their sort.
The Sunday morning costumes are only a problem if you haven't got one (and lots of people haven't), but most churches I've been to don't have a problem as long as you are modest. I thought the history of the clerical robes very interesting.
