I thought it would be a good idea to introduce myself on this page and describe life after taking the red pill (It seems like everyone in the organic community loves this reference to the Matrix, and I do too). Like many other red pill-takers such as myself, my journey into organic church began in reading Pagan Christianity. I hastily read through the entire book, omitting most of the history parts due to the pressure of time, during a sleepless night spent at a friend's house the night before we left together for a trip to Haiti. Her dad had received the book for Christmas, and after trying to soak in as much of the book as I could, my mindset was totally rocked.
It seems like this book is the beginning of many people's journeys toward organic church. Unfortunately, after only a quick search through the internet to try to seek out any simple house churches in the area, I placed the whole idea of living in organic community on a shelf for a while and decided to at least put up with the institutional church for a while. In fact, I never really even minded the passiveness of church services for a while...I was more caught up in what I viewed as a the lack of the Holy Spirit in church services since this is what I thought was the major problem in most churches at the time.
It was through a combination of a lot of time in prayer and reading the Bible in May 2009, a renewed passion to see the body of Christ built up on my campus, and a random link to house2house.com from a campus ministry website that the yearning for organic church once again manifested itself again. To my surprise, I found out on the website that there was actually a network of organic churches in the Cincinnati area. After a few days of anxiously praying and waiting, I decided to hit the send button on the e-mail draft I had written up to the guy whose e-mail address had been listed for the network. His wife called me up a few days later and told me about a larger gathering of younger people in the area and a discipleship training course that was starting up. I eventually found myself involved in a body of followers of Jesus that meets in Northern Kentucky. It is now August of 2010 (I am updating this finally) and I have lived in community with a body for just a little over a year now. I have learned so much, grown so much, and have definitely seen and known more of Christ than I had seen and known a year ago. So thankful for where Christ has brought me by His grace.
