Hi, Fiona. I noticed your interest in connecting with folks in simple church near your town. Another place to look is on simplechurch.com. There is a large presence of Texan simple church on that site. If you show up there, I'll point to the search feature that might help you. Blessings.

Well, Fiona, our respective geographies have overlapped a bit! When I was a youngster, our family lived 1 mile from Pickering, for about 10 years. Even now, my mother and my sister (and family) live in Whitby, just minutes from Ajax!
Also, my wife and I spent a few hours in New Braunfels while exploring that part of Texas, after attending a Simple Church conference in Dallas in September 2008!
Currently, and for most of our married life, we have lived in Niagara-on-the-Lake, about 15 minutes from Niagara Falls -- almost 1.5 hours from Toronto.
Be encouaged to know that, wherever you are, God is present and attentive to you. Blessings.

Hi, Fiona. Good to see that smiling face in your new profile photo! I'd be interested to learn what you experienced at the Threshold 2010 conference.

My wife and I haven't had a birthday for years! (Well, actually, I do make a bit of extra fuss about her on her birthday. Just another way to celebrate her as a gift to me and to many others)
May this day, and all others, be occasions for declaring to God the joy that there is in knowing Him!
Blessings. Jim

Hi Fiona..My name is Jason Blackmon, and I am also a fellow believer in Christ. I'd just like to thank you sharing your testimony and experience. As I was reading about your experience. I couldn't help but relate to my personal experience growing up in the denominational churches. It seemed as if both of our experiences are quite similiar in some ways. There came a point in my Christian life where I had this deep longing for reality in the Church, and denomination was not satisfying enough. I would like to share a blog that me and two other young seeking believers have created. I believe it may be just what your looking for, because it's where the Lord had personally led me and others as well. If you do have the time, please do feel free to comment or respond to any of your enjoyment or questions you may have. I do hope the Lord will continue to lead and guide you in each step of your journey with him.

Hi, Fiona. Just noticed that you are logged into OCT. I see that you are in New Braunfels! My wife and I actually visited there a few years ago. We had been in Dallas, and decided to check out San Antonio -- and we stopped in New Braunfels for lunch on our way through. Bit of a Germanic flavor in the area, if I recall correctly -- which was something quaint and unexpected for us.

How are you doing?

Hey Jim,

Not sure what you mean by being logged into OCT? Can you be specific for me. Glad you were able to visit New Braunfels. Yes I do believe the first settlers here were German and New Braunfels does have a large German influence. It has grown so much since I moved here 6 years ago. I am doing reasonable well, still feel like I am in the wilderness but my daughter and I are the church in our home :) We are praying for rain in extremely parched Texas. I have not actually visited the site for awhile. How are you doing Jim? Good to hear from you.

I don't know of any books off the top of my head, but I know they're out there. One place to start is the following link: Tithing Article I'll find some more resources to share with you as time allows. DM

Michael, I certainly understand what you're saying. Very few ministers ever speak the TRUTH about the tithe. In OT times, the tithe was the inheritance of the Levites who were not allowed to make a living by any means as was common among the…

I have seen a lot of sermons on the tithing, or giving; some of them very strange.  I remember some time a go when my adult daughter was a teen, and going through a very difficult time, was being hauled off in a police car. We called the pastor…

yes, Quite true. "Doing Church" in house with out the Organic content, is just switching buildings.  We as people tend to compartmentalize areas of our life. Church in this part, school in this part, marriage in this part,…

Amen to that.   It's also of interes that those who had, for example, only nine lambs or calves born in a year, they were not required to hand over anything.   One thing I will say is that I thoroughly appreciate the OT system of…

You're so right, Darrell!  Many of the house churches I'm familiar with are not organic expressions of church but are really just institutional church in miniature.  As Frank Viola says, organic church (OC) is one of the most…

Michael Hartson commented on Jim London's blog post 'What do we do when there is no group to join?'
When I think about the most significant points in my Christian walk, they did not take place in an organized, institutionalized environment.  It was incidental to my world, but wholly intentional by God.

Michael Hartson replied to Michael Hartson's discussion 'Why Can't Christian's Hang Out?'
Sure, it's intentional.  God is responsible for the Results, we are responsible for the action.  God asks us to share our lives, talk to others about him, love others.  Who gets saved, or what a person does or does not do or what…
