Reimagine Church

My family and I (my wife and 3 kids ages4,7 and 10) have left the Institutional church about I and a half years ago as of 6-5-10. At this point we are searching and praying for other parts of the body to connect with in our community. I am understanding this to be a journey. My focus now is on; building relationships with those I know and fostering new ones. Learning how to live in Christ daily.
Frank Viola's books have energized me in this process. As well as meeting other like minded folks online through various social networking sites. Wayne Jacobsen and the God Journey podcasts have also proved a great help to me in the process. It has been difficult but the Lord gives hope and help at just the right time. "Every time I'm down the Lord lifts me up."

Sometimes I think we're crazy but in my heart of hearts I know that I am wired by God for an "organic" expression of Christ's body. Until we find this we will not reach our potential in God's kingdom. We need each other. I look forward to connecting with folks on here. I love to hear other's stories about their journey into the Organic church. I'd love to connect with those that have organic groups going and hear your progress and how things work a bit.

We have never really experienced meeting under the headship of Christ before. Sure would like to learn how to do that. We have left the Instittutional Church to learn how to be the body of Christ with others.

Be a Man! but just be quiet about it

Posted on September 1, 2010 at 12:07pm 1 Comment

Could the organic/simple church growth be due to the fact that men are not too keen on the feminimity associated with many institutional church settings?

Men are hardly allowed to be men in most "churches." There is a sense of…

I am not against the Church or going to church

I am against the idea that there is anything particularly holy or sacred about simply going to a weekly meeting; listening to a speech, singing a few songs, and patting Brother Joe on the back and pretending to be his bud.

Hi Ryan,

I don't know of any organic churches here. This is new to me in a sense. But the way I got started was that God gave me a writing when I was taking a bible class and I knew it would disturb my pastor but he asked me to share it anyway. He only ended up giving it his interpretation. It was called "Home Based Ministry". One of my friends thought I was a heretic and that I wanted to destroy the institutional church. This was not and is not my desire but I saw a ministry of the Lord stemming from peoples homes that would heal the wounded, be a refuge and get the gospel back into the streets. It would not remain in one home but would grow from neighborhood to neighborhood. I didn't know all of the details but I felt the Lord was saying don't worry about it now. Since that time about a year ago I was sitting in my church and the Lord dropped the name, "Communities in Harvest" into my spirit. Still don't know what to do with it.

I'm glad to know that I'm not crazy after all. I have seen so many problems in how we do church that I thought I would never be part of a church again but I miss God's people. I am looking forward to learning more about organic church.

Hello Ryan,
Thanks for your post on my site.
I have been hearing God say for some time now that there is a transition from the man made set up of church to getting back to the pattern of the early church that Jesus showed us.
I have been listening to Wayne Jacobsen and others who are also believing the same thing.

I still attend an Apostolic church here in Australia but believe that God is leading me out very soon.
Love and blessings to you as you walk in obedience to the will of God.

Hi Ryan,
Good to connect ... It's Clean Monday here in Greece - a Bank Holiday... and so we all have to go fly kites to ward off the evil spirits of winter!
This is the Orthodox church for you!
Have a good week!

Hi Ryan,
Thanks for welcoming us. We know how hard it is to sometimes detox from the IC. But when we left we actually had a wonderful church body that we had just moved from. I encourage you in your detox time, not to go completely negative on the IC...and I don't know if you have or not...but I see/hear that from a lot of people.

We do organic church because we are all about reaching those who would never come to a regular church, and house church now become our favorite way to gather for corporate worship and fellowship. We love the amount of time we have to pour into our friends who haven't discovered the love of Jesus. One thing I don't miss is having to spend so much time AT church or WITH other believers. While it was great fun, we had very few non-believing friends. Life now is very different.

So I will pray for you and your wife as you go on this amazing journey that you will find God's heart for your family.

Many blessings,
Kim

Michael Hartson commented on Jim London's blog post 'What do we do when there is no group to join?'
When I think about the most significant points in my Christian walk, they did not take place in an organized, institutionalized environment.  It was incidental to my world, but wholly intentional by God.

Michael Hartson replied to Michael Hartson's discussion 'Why Can't Christian's Hang Out?'
Sure, it's intentional.  God is responsible for the Results, we are responsible for the action.  God asks us to share our lives, talk to others about him, love others.  Who gets saved, or what a person does or does not do or what…
