Could the organic/simple church growth be due to the fact that men are not too keen on the feminimity associated with many institutional church settings?
Men are hardly allowed to be men in most "churches." There is a sense of adventure and risk in organic/simple church. Not so much in general "church" attendance. Men don't get too excited at the prospect of going to a service once a week to sing "lovesongs to Jesus." (don't get me wrong I love Jesus)
Men want to be a vital part of something of consequence, A real part of the action! This is how God made us.He didn't make us to be passive spectators or Yes-men. Men want some sense of ownership in what they do. They are not content with just following along with the crowd. In my view most of "church" experience is just that; falling in line with what your leaders tell you. Dare question their authority and WATCH OUT!
So, it seems to me that the only men allowed to really be men in most "churches" are the few "chosen leaders" in their particular organizations.
It should be no surprise then that most churches have a majority of women over men. In my estimation women, generally speaking, are more comfortable following along. I think this is a part of their "general" makeup. Men on the other hand are NOT made to follow along. They are made to be adventurous, risk takers, leaders, warriors, dangerous, etc..
I mean no disrespect to women here. Please don't be offended. I'm speaking in general terms here and have men in mind as my primary audience. I'm no chauvinist. I believe women are free to be and do whatever God leads them to, just as men are. These are some general observations from one man's point of view.
