Easter v Passover 2010.doc

In any Christian church on Easter Sunday, a/k/a Resurrection Sunday, the theme for the day is the resurrection of Jesus, the Christ, for all good Christians know that Easter Sunday is the day he conquered death, hell and the grave and set the captives free from the bondage of sin. As we sit in our finest, decked as if today were the day we should actually be resurrected too, I cannot help but wonder why we buy the lies and perpetuate them year after year and pass them on to our successive generations. Whatever our reasons, any of us who observes Easter as the Resurrection is operating under a misconception perpetrated, perpetuated and pontificated by our religious leaders. There is no way you can get 3 days and 3 nights out of Friday late afternoon to Sunday before sunrise. The truth is there for us to know. My question to them is, why lie to people, when the truth will do?

I agree. I believe Christ must have been crucified on a Wednesday to have a Sunday morn. resurrection.

The evidence actually shows that he was actually resurrected on Saturday evening before 6pm, not Sunday morning. If you have time, read the Easter v Passover document. Very interesting things are revealed.

Is that really the document Pam was requesting? That pdf is completely different from Easter v Passover 2010.doc.

I have a problem with your calculations for a Wednesday crucifixion. In brief, three days and nights in the earth, counting part days or nights in accordance with Jewish practice, do not have to equal 72 hours. Some people (especially Seventh Day Adventists) argue for a Wednesday crucifixion, and say that a strict 72 hours is required, but that would mean that Thursday and Saturday would be Sabbaths and the women could have come to the tomb with spices on the Friday, having bought them on Thursday evening. It would also mean that Jesus would have had to break the Sabbath to get into Jerusalem for the triumphal entry 4 days before.

You say, "From the timeline of events, we must conclude that Jesus rose from the grave sometime on Saturday after 3:00 pm but before 6:00 pm." If so, he did so in the tomb without rolling back the stone; that is not the impression given by the various gospel accounts. Matthew 28:1-2 has the stone rolled away early on the Sunday morning by an angel accompanied by an earthquake; the other gospels all take up the narrative again on the Sunday morning, with the women finding the tomb empty. I agree that it is not stated, but the obvious implication is that the resurrection took place on the day following the Sabbath, during the night and possibly at the moment that the angel rolled back the stone.

Things fit better with a Thursday crucifixion. There are then 4 days (for selection of the passover lamb) after the preceding sabbath and you do not have to have Jesus breaking the Sabbath by coming from Bethany to Jerusalem on a Saturday.

I have just made a blog post to link to my tabulation of all the events of Passion week.

Michael, my experiences with such groups for more than 20 years now is pretty much the same. Some of them broke up over childish things, such as fleshly disputes, others because they wanted that "religious fix" like spiritual junkies…

Malcolm, I agree with Elaine that this succinct presentation is very helpful. Thank you. The one matter of baptism(s) has been an issue that has occasioned the setting of God's children against one another for almost 2000 years, with such…

The Unseen War by David Kortje

A few weeks back I shared a book review with all of you as I felt it was worthy of your reading. This week I find myself doing the same thing again. You are probably wondering if I have suddenly become a “book reviewer” which of course is not the case at all. In fact quite the contrary. The thing is that for the first time in a very long time I have picked up two books that have really impressed something new in my heart. Not necessarily because the topic was new but more so because of the way…See More

Great story, Michael -- and a good analogy. Two options: contriving a sense of safety/ control or trusting the God who reveals. One is an illusion; the other is life.

I know I'm responding to myself, but I had idea. I like stories; sometimes they teach us about ourselves.  A couple of weeks ago I needed some engine work done on an old Chevy.  Tired of paying a mechanic…

I like reading both sides of the issue, and then reading for myself what is written in the Bible. Some thieves have PhD's, and some don't.
